Walking in a Winter Wonderland

Hi sweet boys and girls! I'm currently typing away to you from 4162 feet above sea level at Beech Mountain where I'm in fuzzy slippers, a fleece robe, and enjoying a fire in the 8 degree weather with over 2.5 feet of snow outside!!! Palmer has NOT been enjoying the outdoors, much to our dismay. In fact, when we arrived--THERE WAS NO POWER FOR A DAY AND A HALF. Joe Dirt is missing the warm grass under her paws as well. The views are spectacular from the Ski Slopes here and the company I've seen throughout the vacation has been warm and endearing. There have been many eating opportunities, miles on the highway, and a plethora of laughs and giggles (not just Palmers!) I just finished 2 children's books, the recent Newbery, The Graveyard Book (pretty dark and morbid), and the Magician's Elephant (Thanks Meaghan--a wonderful read about believing and hope in goodness!) I'm now reading The Help (an adult novel). Please ask me about them when we get back to school and I'll be glad to share my thoughts and opinions on them! I miss you all and encourage you to comment how you've spent your past few weeks away from school!

  16. If you were not here when it snowed it was like a white winter wonderland too! My dad and I measured 8 inches of snow. My neighbors the Poseys made a warming hand fire. We roasted marshmallows and boy were they delicious in my mouth and went sledding on black ice. Our sleds were speedy. I hope you had as much fun as we did!

  22. Wow! I hope you had fun. Maybe, when Palmer get's older she will love the snow. Probably, Joe Dirt is not used to the snow yet but after a while he will love the snow. Did you tour any place at beech mountain? I have never been there, and I wish I could go. I am reading The Magician's Elephant and I certainly love it. Kate Dicamllo is one of my favorite authors and I hope that she makes another great book.

  24. During our winter break I read Witch and Wizard by James Patterson. It's amazing! You can visualize what is going on! My favorite part was when Whit and Whisty relized they had powers because there was so much emotion and happieness that you forgot you were reading.[in a good way] If you want magig with a smidge of mysterious, this is the perfect book! 25. Caldecott Project Question
How are you supposed to make up questions and then answer them if you don't know the answer too? Where could I find another rubric for the project? Thanks

I really don't know where my uncle got them from but there amazingg. It blows my mind that these people don't get crushed when they try to swim over it.

  27. Wasn't The Help an excellent book ?!?!? I read the review in People magazine and bought it the next day! Couldn't put in down, yet didn't want to finish as soon as I did :) What did you think about it?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Bridgett, I have never laughed or cried more at a book in my entire life. I couldn't put it down either. I think the most powerful relationship formed for me was between Minnie and Mrs. Celia. The emotion in the story was so well written I thought I was living in the time period. What a hardship for both whites and blacks during this time. Thank God for justice and integration laws! Oh, I want to pick it up and read it again. Did you not laugh out loud at Skeeter's prank on Mrs. Hilly? What a brat! She deserved it!
