Fall is in the air!

Dear parents, Your kids are composing a "love letter" to the fall in class and I can't wait to send them home to share. I asked them to tell fall how they'd dress if they went out on a date, and where they'd take fall if they were going out to eat, and I am more than delighted in the outcomes. I must say one of my favorite lines is from Ben with, "Fall, I'd take you to an all you can eat buffet, just you and me." I hope the language your children are learning to use to express themselves about this magical season make you all as warm and fuzzy on the inside as it has me! I challenge you to post your favorite line from your child when they come home with the letters!

BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS

HI-ya, students and parents:

Let's chat about our favorite ways to lead another life, whether it be through a magical journey to Neverland full of pirates and deadly adventures, or whether it be traveling through another country and meeting friends along the way; aren't books an excellent escape from our own daily rituals and habits?

A few of my favorites are the all time classic Charlotte's Web, as I dream of the tire swing scene with Fern and Avery and absolutely delight in Fern's motherly tenderness towards Wilbur. Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech pulls at your heart strings almost as much, but with a little twist in the end, much like Holes has when you figure out about the brothers and the revelation of the owner of the tennis shoes. Some adult favorites of mine are Edgar Sawtelle (probably the most well described scenes by a new novelist I've seen since Steinbeck's East of Eden and Grapes of Wrath), as well as Ken Follet's World Without End and Pillars of the Earth. Some easy fun reads that make you sit back and say, "Did someone steal my journal?" are Eat, Pray, Love and the ever classic, The Awakening. What are some of your favorites and why???

Bryce Canyons. We hiked down into these canyons, whereas the River Narrows of Zion Canyon we hiked upwards. Can you believe the structure here?
